IAC’s HOT SUMMER PROTECTION FOR MAJOR INTERNET HUB

IAC is providing a 130M-long Acoustic Louvre Screen for Level 3 Communications’ London Data Centre in a move to reduce risk of internet disruption in London’s rising summer temperatures.

Level 3’s London Data Centre handles a massive amount of internet traffic. As well as Internet Protocol (IP) services and broadband transport for many of the world’s largest providers, they also host modem and telecom voice services. The Centre’s ability to guarantee continuity of service is crucial to businesses across Europe and the USA.

Located right in the City of London, noise emissions from chillers serving the building require attenuation in order to prevent noise nuisance to the local residents and businesses. But during the long hot summer of 2006 the chillers tripped out due to overheating for a number of hours, so losing the London Data Centre a huge amount of business. This had been in part due to a solid noise attenuation screen around the chillers. IAC is replacing this existing rooftop screen with an acoustic louvre 130M long and 3M high. This will allow sufficient air flow while still delivering excellent noise attenuation performance.

Garry Wilson is Construction Manager with construction project management leaders, Structure Tone. “This project is part of Phase 3 of a longer term upgrade of the whole facility. The IAC Acoustic Louvre Screen will enhance overall building performance and help to secure service continuity for Level 3 customers.”
