IAC
CONTROLS NOISE AT HEATHROW TERMINAL 5
IAC
has secured a large HVAC attenuation contract from the British Airports
Authority, for London Heathrow’s Terminal 5. From a starting value
of £1/4m, as the construction project progresses, the design and
scope of works are also increasing.
Europe's
biggest construction project, the Terminal is already well underway and
will open in 2008. The terminal building has been dubbed an engineering
masterpiece worthy of history’s greatest, and will be the largest
single span building in the UK: with a roof 39 metres high and a total
floor space equivalent to 50 football pitches! That means a lot of air
conditioning plant!
Thanks
to IAC’s Gary Dawson, Mike Jackson and team, BAA and airline staff
and the millions of travelling passengers passing through the terminal
every year, will benefit from comfortable noise levels.
Gary
Dawson, Business Manager Building Services, said: “We’re supplying
a range of noise attenuation solutions for the new terminal: acoustic
panels and louvres around the plant rooms, and HVAC attenuators reducing
noise from air conditioning systems throughout the main concourses. A
number of the HVAC plant rooms are 30m below ground level in the basement
while the ‘Concourse Chimneys’ positioned throughout the large
interior spaces, bring conditioned air to the main public areas. When
it’s finished the building is going to be an engineering triumph
and it’s great to be a part of that.”
Several
factors were instrumental in IAC securing the contract, primarily technical
expertise and previous supply history with the airport contractors working
on Terminal 5.
Once
operational Terminal 5 will bring Heathrow’s total flights to 480,000
flights a year, and up to 90 million passengers will be benefiting from
IAC's noise control technology. For further information call Gary Dawson,
